Golf Course Health & Safety Information

Introduction

This webpage  provides an assessment of the risks identified for players, staff and officials at Lutterworth Golf Club whilst on the golf course.

It is the responsibility of all players to ensure that they are adequately insured to cover all risks whilst on the course and at the club.

Mobile phones may only be used in the Clubhouse foyer and in the car park.  Mobile phone use in all other areas is not permitted except to summon help in the case of an emergency.  In such a case, call the Professional Shop on 07904 680146 or the  Emergency Services on 999.

A defibrillator can be found on the outside of the Halfway House which is accessible when walking from the 10th green to the 11th tee.

Players are expected at all times to be aware of the risks to others and to themselves whilst playing golf.

CARE MUST BE TAKEN AT ALL TIMES TO AVOID  ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES TO ONESELF AND TO OTHER  PLAYERS, STAFF AND OFFICIALS.

All accidents MUST be reported to the Club Manager or the Competition Official on duty for entry into the Accident Book.

THE COURSE

The Golf Course Assessment is carried out on a hole by hole basis.

As a general rule, players should not strike a golf ball when there is a risk of endangering another player or member of the green staff.

PUBLIC FOOTPATH. A public footpath crosses the course through THE MIDDLE of holes 2 and 12 and BETWEEN  holes 1 and 11.

PLAYERS MUST GIVE WAY TO THE PUBLIC USING THIS FOOTPATH.

1st

Be aware of the practice area to the left and the 18th and 11th fairways when teeing off. Be aware of the ditch and pond to the right of the fairway.

2nd

The public footpath crosses this hole - check before playing. Also allow the preceding group to come into sight before playing your tee shot. This is a blind shot; be aware of players on the 14th green and the 12th hole.  A ditch crosses the fairway in front of the green.  Take care when crossing the bridge on the left of the hole across the ditch.

3rd

Please take care when crossing the bridge.  Be aware of players on the 2nd green.   Be aware of ditches to the left and right of the fairway.  Be aware of the 4th tee to the left of the 3rd green when playing into it.

4th

Take care when crossing the bridge. A deep river runs across and alongside this hole.  A ditch is on the right hand side of the hole.

5th

There is a deep lake in front of the tee on this hole.  Be aware of the 3rd tee to the left and the 8th fairway to the right when teeing off.

6th

There is a ditch and pond running alongside the teeing area. Be aware of this when on the tee and crossing the bridge. Be aware of players on the 5th green, 8th tee and 7th green to the right of the tee area. Be aware of the 7th fairway to the right when playing this hole.

7th

Be aware of players on the 6th fairway when playing this hole.

8th

DO NOT TEE OFF UNTIL THE FAIRWAY BELL IS RUNG BY THE PRECEDING GROUP. If there is no group ahead leave a few minutes before playing. Be aware of players on the 5th fairway to the right. THERE IS A DEEP LAKE TO THE LEFT OF THIS FAIRWAY AND A SECOND OUT OF SIGHT TO THE RIGHT.

9th

Be aware of players on the 10th tee and fairway. A ditch runs alongside the left side of this hole.

10th

Be aware of the main road and out of bounds to the left on this hole. Please take care when crossing the river using the bridges.  Be aware of the steep banks of the river which runs across the fairway.  There is a dry ditch on the right hand side of the fairway across the river.

11th

Be aware of players on the 1st fairway to the left and 3rd green to the right. Also be aware of people around the Halfway Hut to the right. A PUBLIC FOOTPATH RUNS ALONG THE LEFT  SIDE OF THIS HOLE ON ITS BOUNDARY WITH THE FIRST FAIRWAY. The public have right of way. A ditch runs alongside the right hand boundary of the fairway from halfway along and there are lateral ditches to the right and across the fairway.

12th

A PUBLIC FOOTPATH CROSSES THIS HOLE. The public have right of way. Be aware of players on the 2nd fairway to the right and 11th green to the left, also the 1st green to the left of the 12th green.

13th

This is a three way tee - please be considerate to players on other tees. Be aware of players on the 14th green and 14th fairway to the right -  the 14th fairway is out of bounds. Be aware of players on the 17th fairway to the left. The 14th tee is to the front and right as you approach the 13th green. Be aware and courteous when playing into the green.

14th

Be aware of players approaching the 13th green and playing the 13th fairway to the right. When playing into the 14th green be aware of players on the 2nd tee to the left and the 13th tee to the right.

15th

This is a three way tee—please be considerate to  players on other tees. You have priority over players on the 17th green but be aware of them. Be aware of players on the 18th fairway to the left and lady players on the 16th tee to the right behind the trees. There is a ditch and pond in front of the green. Please be careful on the bridge if crossing the ditch to the right of the pond.

16th

A ditch dissects this hole and runs alongside the left hand side beyond the out of bounds. Be careful when crossing the bridge. Be aware of players on the 15th green and the 16th and 17th fairways. DO NOT TEE OFF UNTIL THE ALL CLEAR BELL IS RUNG BY THE PRECEDING GROUP.

17th

Be aware of the private house to the left. This is out of bounds. Be aware of players on the 16th green and fairway and Ladies on the 15th tee. When approaching your ball for your second shot be aware of balls from the 16th tee to the right and 13th tee to the left. When playing into the green be aware of the tee area beyond and to the left of the green as players on the 15th tee have priority.

18th

A multi tee area — be courteous to other players. Be aware of players on the 15th fairway and green to the right. Be aware to the left of the oncoming 1st fairway and rough to the left. When playing into the green be aware of the practice area to the left and the patio behind.

USE OF BUGGIES

The use of single seat ride on buggies is permitted only by prior application  to the Secretary. All buggies must be operated in accordance with normal practice and players must have appropriate insurance cover.

EMERGENCY ACCESS AND NUMBERS

Access to the course and practice facilities is by the main entrance on Rugby Road. The gate is locked overnight.

SUSPENSION OF PLAY

Players must protect themselves in Health and Safety matters especially when there is a danger from lightning when play MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY.

Rule 6– 8 of the Rules of Golf makes it quite clear that a player is entitled to discontinue play if the player believes that there is a danger from lightning.

All players MUST adhere to the following Suspension of Play Procedure.

DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCES

A suspension of play for a dangerous situation (e.g. lightning) will be signalled by a prolonged single blast on a klaxon operated from the Pro Shop.  In such circumstances the players shall discontinue play immediately and shall not resume until authorised to do so by the Competition Committee or Professional.

During a Competition, the Competition Organiser is responsible for the sounding of the klaxon. However, even if the klaxon is not sounded and the player believes there is a real risk of, or danger from, lightning then the player is entitled to proceed under the provision of Rule 6—8 and discontinue play.

During casual play players have to proceed under Rule 6—8. This makes it the players own responsibility to discontinue play when in her/his opinion a danger from lightning exists. It is unreasonable to expect the Club to monitor the course every hour of every day.

If the klaxon has been sounded then a player is not entitled to override that decision and continue play. When the klaxon has been sounded for play to be suspended, players must discontinue play immediately and make their way from the course.

BE AWARE YOUR LIFE MAY BE IN DANGER

Every effort will be made to ensure the warning is sounded with sufficient time to allow all competitors, caddies, spectators, club employees and officials to evacuate the course prior to an electric storm striking the course.

Upon the signal being given all people on the course must comply with this warning and decision.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF THIS IS DISQUALIFICATION

NON-DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCES—REFER TO RULE 6—8

In a Competition, suspension of play for any reason other than a  dangerous situation shall be signalled by THREE SHORT BLASTS on the klaxon which will be repeated.

When play is suspended by the Competition Committee:

When the players in a group are between the play of two holes they shall not resume playing until the Committee has ordered a resumption.

If they are in the process of playing a hole they shall discontinue play immediately and shall not thereafter resume play until the Committee has ordered a resumption.

EVACUATION OF THE COURSE

It may be that there is sufficient time to allow for all players, caddies, spectators, club officials and employees to evacuate the course without the need to shelter. That being the case the Competition Organiser will make the fact known and request that all should leave the course.

Where there is insufficient time to evacuate the course all people on the course should comply with the following procedure:

MARK THE POSTION OF YOUR GOLF BALL.

LEAVE YOUR GOLF EQUIPMENT WHERE IT IS AND STAND AWAY FROM IT.

KEEP AS LOW TO THE GROUND AS POSSIBLE. IDEALLY CROUCH DOWN IN THE NEAREST BUNKER.

DO NOT;

Stand near golf clubs or trolley.

Stand under any overhead power lines.

Seek cover in wooden shelters wherever they are located unless the shelter is fully enclosed and is properly earthed. (There are shelters on the course, none of which are fully enclosed nor are they properly earthed).

Shelter under trees or on high ground.

Make your way off the course or to shelters by walking under trees.

Use a mobile‘phone—make sure that it is switched off.

Put up your umbrella under any circumstances.
